I know that it has been a while….

I just realized that even though I have posted some things that I hope will interest most, I have not actually posted anything about me in a while. And I really hope that hearing about my day to day life along with the challenges and victories that go along with that are at least part of the reason people come here.

So we are going to go back a couple of weeks to get everyone caught up on what has been going on with me. But first a little family history…

My mother is pictured on the left here. My father had owned a gas station in Daytona Beach called Red’s Sunoco and this was the race car that he owned. The number 4 on the car came from the fact that I was four years old when he built this car so that would place this around 1973 or so. Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because a few years after this, after my mother was in her early 40’s, her teeth started breaking for no apparent reason. Well, heredity struck me and I started having the same problem after I turned 50, my teeth started breaking. A couple of weeks ago I finally got around to going to the dentist. I put it off way too long, I know. But I finally bit the bullet – pun intended – and went to the oral surgeon and had 6 (!) teeth removed at the same time. The procedure was not bad. But I wound up with one hell of an infection that caused me a lot of pain. More pain than even the teeth that were broken.

Anyone that has MS will tell you that is you have an infection and it is bad enough, it can cause problems with your MS. This is because inflammation of any kind is bad for MS. An infection is nothing more than inflammation in your body. So this effected my MS and caused me problems there. So not only was my jaw in a lot of pain, but I was also dealing with balance issues that made me fall six or seven times over the weekend.

It has taken me a while to even start feeling a little like my recently old self. I say recently old since I will never feel like my old self again.

Also in that time, my four-legged, furry son Dougie, who is half Coon Hound and half Beagle got sick. When people ask what kind of dog Dougie is I usually say sort of jokingly that he is a chow hound. That boy can eat a lot! But he got sick and did not eat for 3 days. Dougie has stomach problems so he may not eat first thing in the morning but he always eats by the end of the day. When he went so long without eating, we became very concerned. So we got him to the vet and got him some medication. Even with the medication it still took him a couple of days to eat, but I am very happy to report that even though it has taken him almost two weeks he seems to be back to his normal self.

And in the midst of all of this our other four-legged, furry son Smokie, who is a kitty cat of unknown heritage – the vet just refers to him as an American Long Hair – had something going on with his sinuses. So the vet said that he just had an upper respiratory infection. So we got medicine for him also. I am happy to say that he is doing much better also.

And now I have an appointment with the eye doc in a couple of days to see if I need a new pair of cheaters, I mean glasses.

So damn it has been an interesting couple of weeks. But I would not expect anything else at the end of a year like this one has been.

But my birthday is in a few days, December 5th to be exact. I don’t worry about birthdays anymore. At my age I have had enough of them so they don’t phase me anymore.

This catches everyone up on what has been happening with me over the past few weeks or so. I will end this one now since I think it is long enough.

Everyone have a safe, healthy and pain free evening!
Jim
